The best video doorbells in Australia

Quick answer: The best video doorbell for most Australian homes is the Tapo D210: 2K, a chime in the box, free person detection and recording to a microSD card, for $118 at Bunnings, also on Amazon. For a second camera that watches parcels on the mat, the eufy E340 ($347) needs no subscription either. Ring and Google Nest doorbells are polished, but recordings need a plan.

Price at the retailer named, checked 18 October 2026. Prices change, so the retailer's page is the final word. We can't show Amazon prices here; the Amazon button shows today's price. Paid links: we may earn a commission. The highlighted pick is the one we'd buy for most people.

How we picked: We compared these 8 picks on power, storage, subscription and price, using maker specs, Australian retailer prices and owner reports. We haven't tested them hands-on yet, and maker claims are labelled as theirs. Commission never changes the order. Full method.

A video doorbell is a camera that also answers the door: it rings your phone, shows who is there and lets you talk to them from anywhere. The two decisions that matter are how it is powered and whether it keeps recordings without a monthly plan. Prices below are from Bunnings, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks and the makers’ Australian stores on 18 October 2026 (the Tapo D210 on 21 October); for models also on Amazon Australia, check the current price on Amazon. We compared maker specifications, retailer listings and subscription terms; we have not fitted these doorbells to our own front doors.

Battery or wired

A battery doorbell screws to the frame and charges every few months. Makers quote up to 6 months for the Tapo D210 (Bunnings listing) and up to 10 months for the Reolink battery doorbell. The eufy C30’s battery is built in, so the doorbell comes off the wall to charge; the eufy E340 uses a quick-release battery you can swap.

A wired doorbell runs from a low-voltage doorbell transformer and never needs charging. The transformer is the part to check. Google says the Nest Doorbell needs an 8 to 24 VAC, 10 to 40 VA transformer; Ring specifies 8 to 24 VAC, 40 VA maximum, and recommends a DIN rail transformer, the kind that clips into a switchboard; eufy’s E340 wants 16 to 24 V and more than 10 VA; Reolink’s battery doorbell needs 8 to 24 VAC in wired mode.

When you need an electrician

The makers’ wired instructions assume a working doorbell circuit with a suitable transformer already in place. Anything on the mains side is a different matter. Queensland’s Electrical Safety Office says it is not illegal to buy electrical accessories or appliances that need to be hard-wired, but they must be connected by a licensed electrician. The NSW Government says that by law any electrical wiring work must be done by a licensed electrician. So a new transformer, a DIN rail transformer in the switchboard, or a new power point at the door is a job for an electrician. A battery doorbell avoids the question entirely.

The picks

The Tapo D210 is the doorbell we would buy for most homes. It is 2K with a 160° head-to-toe view, colour night vision with a spotlight, and smart people detection with no extra fees. It records to a microSD card of up to 512GB, comes with a chime and needs no hub. $118 at Bunnings and $119 at The Good Guys, and Amazon Australia sells it directly.

The eufy Video Doorbell E340 adds a second camera pointed down at the doormat, so a parcel left at the door stays in shot. It stores clips on 8GB built in, which eufy says is about 90 days at typical use, runs on battery or wires, and needs no subscription. It is 2.4 GHz only and does not support Apple HomeKit. $347 at Bunnings.

The Reolink battery doorbell (2nd gen) has a square 2048 x 2048 picture that shows a visitor’s face and the parcel at their feet. Detection of people, vehicles, animals and packages is free, though the free plan caps rich notifications at 25 a day, and wired mode adds 24/7 recording. $229 with chime at Bunnings and JB Hi-Fi.

The eufy Video Doorbell C30 is the other low-cost doorbell here that records with no plan: 2K, microSD up to 128GB, human and package detection, $149 at JB Hi-Fi. Amazon sells it bundled with eufy’s Chime 2.

For Apple households, the Aqara Doorbell Camera Hub G410 supports HomeKit Secure Video, works with Google Home, Alexa and Matter, and doubles as a Zigbee, Thread and Matter hub. It senses motion with radar, records to microSD and includes a chime. $187 at Bunnings.

The Google Nest Doorbell (battery) suits Google Home homes: a 3:4 picture shows people head to toe, and it tells people, packages and vehicles apart. Without a plan it keeps 3 hours of event history; Google Home Premium starts at A$15 a month. $277 at Officeworks, $279 at JB Hi-Fi on sale.

The Ring Battery Video Doorbell 2K is in every store, works with Alexa and Echo Show, and costs $147 at Bunnings. But Ring’s FAQ says recorded video needs a Ring plan: Ring Solo is A$4.95 a month or A$49.95 a year. The Arlo Video Doorbell 2K is $88.95 at Bunnings, with video history in Arlo Secure after a 30-day trial, from $9.99 a month for one camera.

Doorbell, cameras and lock together

A doorbell covers the front step; the main camera guide covers the rest of the property, and the no-subscription guide compares every brand’s plan prices. If you want to let people in as well as see them, see the smart lock guide, and the screen door lock guide if your front door has a security screen.

The one trap

Assuming a wired doorbell is a DIY job because the box says “easy install”. Those instructions assume a battery, or a doorbell circuit and transformer that already work. If the box asks for a transformer you do not have, the install now includes mains electrical work, and that means a licensed electrician. Either price that in, or buy a battery model.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best video doorbell in Australia without a subscription?

The Tapo D210 for most homes: it records to a microSD card and detects people for free, with a chime included, for $118. The eufy E340 and Reolink battery doorbell also work fully without a plan.

Do I need an electrician to install a video doorbell in Australia?

Not for a battery doorbell. A wired doorbell runs on a low-voltage transformer, and installing or connecting that transformer to mains power is electrical work: Queensland's Electrical Safety Office says hard-wired appliances must be connected by a licensed electrician.

Does the Ring doorbell work without a subscription in Australia?

It sends alerts and gives live view, but Ring's FAQ says reviewing recorded video needs a Ring plan. Ring Solo is A$4.95 a month or A$49.95 a year.

Can renters install a video doorbell?

A battery doorbell needs only a couple of screws, and no-drill mounts are sold for some models. Ask your landlord before drilling, and keep the old doorbell to put back.

Will a video doorbell work with my existing chime?

Wired models usually can: Google says the Nest Doorbell keeps your chime when wired, and eufy's E340 connects to an existing chime. Battery models use a plug-in chime (included with the Tapo D210 and Aqara G410) or a smart speaker.
