The best smart locks in Australia

Quick answer: The best smart lock for most Australian front doors with a bored deadbolt is the Aqara U100: fingerprint, keypad, Apple Home Key and a mechanical key backup for $279 at Bunnings, also on Amazon. For a lever-handle door, the eufy C33 ($258) puts the fingerprint reader in the handle. If you have a security screen door too, start with the Yale Unity range, which makes a lock for each door.

Price at the retailer named, checked 18 October 2026. Prices change, so the retailer's page is the final word. We can't show Amazon prices here; the Amazon button shows today's price. Paid links: we may earn a commission. The highlighted pick is the one we'd buy for most people.

How we picked: We compared these 7 picks on fits, unlock, key backup and price, using maker specs, Australian retailer prices and owner reports. We haven't tested them hands-on yet, and maker claims are labelled as theirs. Commission never changes the order. Full method.

A smart lock lets you in with a fingerprint, a code or your phone, and lets you give the cleaner or a tradie a code that stops working on Friday. The catch in Australia is fit. Several locks sold here are designed around US-style bored deadbolts, while your front door may instead have a lever entrance set, a digital latch or a mortice lock. Prices below are from Bunnings, JB Hi-Fi and the makers’ stores on 18 October 2026 (the Yale Unity Entrance Lock on 21 October); for models also on Amazon Australia, check the current price on Amazon. We compared maker specifications, retailer listings and installation requirements; we have not fitted these locks ourselves.

Measure your door first

Three measurements decide what fits. Take them before you shop.

  • Backset: the distance from the edge of the door to the centre of the handle or key. Aqara, eufy and Yale all list 60 or 70 mm for the locks here.
  • Door thickness: Aqara lists 35 to 55 mm for the U100, eufy about 35 to 52 mm for the C33, and Yale 35 to 60 mm for the Unity Entrance Lock.
  • The hole: bored deadbolts and lever sets use a round 54 mm hole through the door face (Aqara and eufy both list 2 1/8 inch). A mortice lock sits in a pocket cut into the door edge instead.

eufy says plainly that the C210 suits most standard US deadbolts. If your door has no 54 mm hole, fitting one of these means drilling, and on a rental that needs the landlord’s permission. The Yale Unity Entrance Lock is the one here that lists aluminium doors as well as timber.

How you get in, and what happens when the batteries die

Every lock here has a keypad or app; the differences are fingerprint, phone tap and backup.

Lock Price Fingerprint Backup if batteries die Remote access
eufy Smart Lock C210 $248 (Bunnings), also on Amazon No 2 keys, outside charging port Wi-Fi built in
Gainsborough Haven $249 (JB Hi-Fi, sold by Gainsborough), also on Amazon No Key override Forte Wi-Fi Bridge, extra
eufy Smart Lever Lock C33 $258 (Bunnings), also on Amazon Yes, 50 prints Key, USB-C emergency power Wi-Fi built in

Lockwood SDL Smart Deadbolt $342.16 (Bunnings) No 9V external terminal Hub, extra

Yale Unity Entrance Lock $436.84 (Bunnings), also on Amazon Via Smart Keypad 2, extra No mechanical keys listed Yale hub, extra

Battery life varies more than the boxes suggest. eufy says the C210 lasts about 4 months on 4 AA cells at 10 unlocks a day, while Bunnings lists 12 months for the C33 on 8 AA cells. Whatever you buy, a low-battery alert plus a key or an outside emergency port is what stops a flat battery becoming a locksmith call.

The picks

The Aqara Smart Lock U100 is the most complete lock here for a door with a bored deadbolt. It stores 50 fingerprints, takes codes on its keypad and unlocks with Apple Home Key, which Aqara says works even when the iPhone or Apple Watch is out of battery. It has a mechanical key and a USB-C emergency port, and an IP65 rating. Remote access and Google, Alexa or Matter control go through an Aqara Zigbee hub; JB Hi-Fi sells the U100 with the M100 hub for $299. On its own it is $279 at Bunnings, and Aqara’s own store sells it on Amazon Australia.

The eufy Smart Lever Lock C33 suits doors with a lever handle. The fingerprint reader is built into the handle, so you grip and open. Wi-Fi is built in, there is a key and a USB-C emergency port, and Bunnings lists a fire-resistance test to AS 1530.4. It does not work with Apple Home or Matter, and eufy’s comparison table lists it as ANSI/BHMA Grade 3, the lowest of the US grades. $258 at Bunnings.

The eufy Smart Lock C210 is the cheapest Wi-Fi lock: a keypad deadbolt with two keys and an outside charging port for $248 at Bunnings. No fingerprint, and eufy says it suits US-style deadbolts.

The Lockly Secure Pro Latch has the cleverest keypad: Lockly’s PIN Genie keypad shuffles where the digits sit, which Lockly sells as anti-peep protection. It adds a 3D fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi, two keys and a 9V socket. $399 at Bunnings and on Lockly’s Australian store, where it is marked down from $559.

The Gainsborough Haven is a keypad entrance lever with 50 PINs, auto-lock and a key override. App control needs Gainsborough’s Forte Wi-Fi Bridge. $249 on JB Hi-Fi’s marketplace, sold by Gainsborough.

The Yale Unity Entrance Lock earns its place if you also want a smart screen door: with a Yale Connect bridge, its DualDoor feature unlocks the Unity screen door lock and the front door together. Yale’s spec sheet lists no mechanical keys, so you rely on the app, key tags or a keypad. $436.84 at Bunnings as a special order, $583 at JB Hi-Fi.

The Lockwood SDL Smart Deadbolt comes from an Australian lock brand and uses the Yale Home app over Bluetooth, with up to 250 PIN codes and a 9V external terminal. $342.16 at Bunnings.

Screen doors, doorbells and cameras

If there is a security screen in front of your door, a smart lock on the front door alone does not get you in. The screen door lock guide covers the few locks made for Australian screen doors. To see who is at the door before you unlock it, see the video doorbell guide.

The one trap

Buying a lock with no key and no outside emergency power, then letting the batteries run down. Most locks here give you a key or a USB-C or 9V port on the outside; check which yours has before you throw the old keys in a drawer, and replace batteries at the first low-battery alert rather than the last.

Frequently asked questions

Will a smart lock fit my Australian front door?

Check three numbers first: the backset (most smart locks here need 60 or 70 mm), the door thickness (the locks here list ranges between 35 and 60 mm) and whether your current lock is a bored deadbolt, a lever set or a mortice lock. Makers list these on the product page.

What happens if a smart lock's batteries go flat?

It depends on the lock. The Aqara U100 and eufy C33 have a key and a USB-C emergency port, the Lockly Secure Pro has keys and a 9V socket, and the Lockwood SDL has a 9V terminal. Yale's spec for the Unity Entrance Lock lists no mechanical keys.

Do smart locks need Wi-Fi?

Not to work at the door. Wi-Fi is for unlocking from away. The eufy C33, eufy C210 and Lockly Secure Pro have Wi-Fi built in; Aqara, Gainsborough, Yale and Lockwood locks need a separate hub or bridge for remote access.

Are smart locks safe in Australia?

Look for a standard the maker names. Yale lists AS 4145.2 for its Unity screen door lock; many imported locks quote US ANSI/BHMA grades, where Grade 1 is the toughest and Grade 3 the lowest. Keep a key or emergency power option either way.

Can I fit a smart lock to a security screen door?

Most smart locks are made for doors 35 mm or thicker, while Yale's screen door lock is made for 18 to 25 mm screen doors. See the screen door lock guide for the models that fit.
